Rome Davis is a 2D animator and comedian from Seattle, currently based in Brooklyn. They make work influenced by the absurdity of dreams and waking life. Rome draws great inspiration from psychological ideas, especially the hypnagogic and hypnopompic states.
Davis studied film at The Evergreen State College (BFA Film) and animation (MFA Computer Arts) at School of Visual Arts (SVA). They also trained and performed at several theaters including Upright Citizens Brigade and Annoyance Theater.
Their animations use color, repetition, and distortion to create strange and fluid worlds. Humor is a core part of their practice—a way to play with reality and find humor in it. They often work with a mixed media approach, blending video and animated assets.
Davis' work has appeared on film and TV. This includes Adult Swim and in the film The People's Joker. Currently, they're Chief Creative Officer at Practically Safe Media and host a radio show called nite lite on KPISSFM.
